This method relies on direct contact, where tapes slide over a heated metallic surface. While often more energy-efficient, hot plates can introduce friction and are generally less forgiving than convective air systems.

These utilize forced convection, circulating heated air evenly across the tape web. They are the industry standard because they provide uniform heating and minimize physical damage to the tapes.
